Your own status bot

A status bot is a Discord bot of your own that shows your WARDOGS servers in its status, right in the member list. WarDogs Server Commands keeps doing everything else. It takes about five minutes, and the bot needs no permissions in your server.
Why a bot of your own?Discord gives every bot one status for all the servers it is in. WarDogs Server Commands is in many communities, so it cannot show your player count to you and another community's to them. Your own bot is only in your server, so its status belongs to you.
What you need
- WarDogs Server Commands in your server, connected to your Warcon key.
- Manage Server in your Discord (or the Settings right in the bot), to open the dashboard settings.
- A Discord account with two-factor authentication, which Discord asks for when you copy a bot token.
Step by step

Create an application
Open the Discord Developer Portal and sign in. Press New Application, enter the name your members should see, e.g. WDN 1 or Nordic Status, accept the terms and press Create.
Under General Information you can upload an App Icon; it becomes the bot's picture.

Make it private
Go to Installation in the left menu and set Install Link to None. Save.
Then go to Bot and switch Public Bot off. Save. Now only you can add this bot to a server.
Leave all three Privileged Gateway Intents off. The status bot reads no messages and no member list.

Copy the token
Still on the Bot page, press Reset Token, confirm, and enter your two-factor code if Discord asks. Press Copy.
The token is the bot's password. Paste it only into the dashboard below, never into a chat, a ticket or a screenshot. If it ever leaks, press Reset Token again and paste the new one.

Add it in the dashboard
Open your dashboard, pick your server, go to Settings and scroll to ST-34 · Status bots.
Paste the token, choose what the bot shows (all servers or one of them) and press Add bot. The dashboard checks the token with Discord and shows the bot's name.

Invite it to your server
Press Add to server next to the bot. Discord opens with your server already picked; press Authorize. The bot asks for no permissions at all.
Back in the dashboard, the bot switches from Waiting for invite to Live within a few seconds, and its status appears in the member list.

Make it yours
Under the bot you can set a short name per server (e.g. WDN 1, WDN 2) and the text while the server is online and offline. Save, and the status changes within a minute.

Several servers
You have two ways, and can mix them (up to three status bots per community):
- One bot for all servers: the servers are joined with a dot, e.g. WDN 1 12/100 · WDN 2 offline. When that gets longer than 60 characters, the bot shows one server at a time and turns every 20 seconds.
- One bot per server: repeat steps 1 to 5 for each server and pick that server in step 4. Name each application after its server.
The dot next to the bot is green with players on, yellow when the servers are up but empty and red when every server it shows is down.
When something is off
- “Discord does not accept this token”
- The token was copied incompletely or has been reset since. Press Reset Token again, copy the new one and paste it.
- “Private application cannot have a default authorization link”
- Discord shows this when you switch Public Bot off. Set Installation → Install Link to None first (step 2), then try again.
- The bot stays on “Waiting for invite”
- It is not in your server yet. Press Add to server in the dashboard and authorize it for the right server.
- The bot shows “Needs attention”
- Discord stopped accepting its token, usually because it was reset or the application was deleted. Press New token and paste the current one.
- The status says offline, but the server is up
- The status follows what WarDogs Server Commands sees through Warcon. Check the status panel and the setup guide on your dashboard; a Warcon key problem shows up there.
- I want to stop
- Press the bin next to the bot in the dashboard: its token is deleted and it goes offline. Kick the bot from your server and delete the application in the Developer Portal if you no longer need it.
Is my token safe?
The token is stored encrypted and never shown again, not even to you. It is used for one thing: signing the bot in and setting its status. The status bot asks Discord only for the list of servers it is in; it cannot read messages or members and has no permissions in your server. Details are in the privacy notice (1.9).
